Vārāhī Devi is one of the fierce and powerful aspects of the Divine Mother in the Shakta tradition, revered as one of the Sapta Matrikas (Seven Mother Goddesses). She embodies the shakti (energy) of Varaha, the boar-headed avatar of Lord Vishnu, and is depicted with the head of a boar and the body of a divine goddess. In Lalitha Sahasranamam, she is described as the commander-in-chief of Goddess Lalitha Tripurasundari’s celestial army, leading the forces against demonic powers. Symbolizing protection, courage, and the destruction of ignorance, Vārāhī wields weapons like the plough, noose, and goad, and often rides a buffalo or a lion. She is both fierce in battle and nurturing towards her devotees, granting them fearlessness and victory over obstacles. In tantric worship, she is honored for her power to remove negative energies and grant spiritual strength, wisdom, and material prosperity.
